Property taxes is one of the largest revenue sources for the City’s general fund. The amount of revenue generated is based upon the millage rate in conjunction with the taxable value of properties in the City. An increase in the taxable value of properties allows the City to generate more revenue without needing to increase the millage rate. The City’s millage rate, 4.1193 has remained unchanged since 2008.

Broward County Property Appraiser calculates the taxable value of properties for Fort Lauderdale.

Target taxable property values are based on the current year gross taxable value (line 4 on the DR-420).

Final taxable property values are reported on the following calendar year (Line 7 on the DR 420).

The target is based on the Broward County Property Appraiser reports, the City’s taxable property values on the Certification of Taxable Value (DR420) from July every year.

Based on the Broward County Property Appraiser reports, the City’s taxable property values continues to rise. The value has risen from $36.1 billion in the 2018 tax year to $48.8 billion in the 2022 tax year, representing a 35% increase in taxable property value.

The Broward County Property Appraiser reports the City’s taxable property values on the Certification of Taxable Value (DR420) from July every year which can be found on the Property Appraiser’s website. https://bcpa.net/TOC.asp
