The number of retail properties and restaurants is an indicator of the market growth, business attraction, and health of the local economy and an indicator of the progress towards building an attractive global and local economic community marketplace.

The data for this measure is obtained by tracking the number of taxable retail, restaurant and entertainment property parcels within the City’s boundaries, as reported by the Broward County Property Appraiser to the Florida Department of Revenue.

It is important to note that by tracking property parcels the data reported here does not reflect every restaurant, retail and entertainment business. A shopping mall, or a large department store for example, may be recorded as one parcel but contain dozens of businesses. Similarly, an office building or a hotel may contain several restaurants or retail stores; they are classified in categories not included in this measure.

The target was established by determining a desired increase to the number of retail and restaurant properties.

Data is derived from Florida Department of Revenue’s property tax assessment records, taxable parcels by County and City.
