The integrity of the collection system piping can be affected by the age of pipe, ground condition, changes in pressure and by improper digging during construction.  Proactive efforts to increase maintenance and planned infrastructure replacement can reduce the number of pipe failures and service interruptions to our neighbors.

This measure tracks the number of failures that occur per 100 miles of collection system piping.  The City has 595 miles of collection system piping.

The target, established by the American Waterworks Association (AWWA) Utility Benchmarking  median for combined wastewater operations for the total number of failures per 100 of distribution pipe is 2.52 per year.

It is important to note that as the AWWA updates their benchmarks, the target may fluctuate.  Any changes to the target will be in reference to those updates and noted accordingly.

The data is collected each day and reported monthly in the City’s asset management database.
